New Regulation: HIPAA Recognized Security Practices

The Department of Health and Human Services has proposed a new rule on Recognized Security Practices Under the HITECH Act, we will be presenting a webinar on the recognized HIPAA security practices on July 6th at 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CDT again on July 7th at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT and again on July 9th at 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CDT.  The course will focus on the day-to-day cybersecurity practices not a broad overview of HIPAA.  

The course will be recorded, all attendees will receive the recording, slideshow, and sample policies and procedures related HIPAA security practices.  No extra charge for the recording.

The webinar will cover the following topics:

  • How the new rule impacts your practice
  • Detailed review of recognized security practices
  •  Best practices for cybersecurity
  • Managing remote devices in a practice
  • HIPAA requirements related to email, texting, and other communications
  • Modifying policies and procedures
  • Employee management and training

Speaker: Zachary Edgar JD, LLM is the managing partner for Med Comply.  Zachary is healthcare attorney who specializes in state healthcare regulatory issues particularly for physician practices.  Zachary has spent the last eight years as in-house counsel for a physical therapy management company where he handled a wide variety of healthcare legal issues including: federal and state healthcare fraud and abuse laws, state professional and facility licensing issues, HIPAA, employment issues, and Medicare and Medicaid compliance.  Zachary obtained his BA and JD from the University for Arizona and an LLM in healthcare law from Loyola University.
